Ah legacy… That seemingly unattainable goal that all fighters covet to forge. Careers come and go, and boxers can win a title here and there.

But that doesn’t mean you get to leave behind a legacy.

A legacy is a bequeathal, something you leave behind, something they will remember you by.

Most boxers fight all their lives and achieve enough success to make it to the Hall of Fame, but somehow are not good enough or talented enough to be legacy fighters.

Floyd Mayweather isn’t such a fighter. He was so talented and so good, nobody could beat him in 50 professional fights.

His victim roster reads like a Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Manny Pacquiao. Canelo Alvarez. Ricky Hatton. Juan Manuel Marquez. Miguel Cotto. Shane Mosely, among others.

Then he decided to throw it all away by fighting a YouTuber. And he couldn’t even knock him down.

ENTER. Logan Paul. YouTuber, with more than 3 million followers and an interloper in the world of professional boxing with a record of 0-1.

Last week, these two got it on inside the squared circle in an exhibition bout, with no judges scoring the fight.

It was hyped up well enough for the circus that it was and many people bought into that puffery for it to reportedly generate more than 1 million pay-per-view purchases.

That more than a million doofuses were actually willing to shell out $49.99 each for this farce just about sums up what is wrong with the world today.

And to think people posture sanctimoniously and engage in pompous conflagration about all the problems we are having, yet one million of you can’t figure out when you’ve been had.

Or know that indeed it’s a stick-up but you pat the robber behind the back as he leaves with your hard-earned cash and wish him well on his malevolence.

So where was I? Oh yes, it’s about the legacy. How is Floyd’s boxing legacy ruined?

He simply said so himself: “They say it’s not all about money. Well, your kids can’t eat legacy. The patches on my trunks earned me $30 million alone.”

That may be right, Floyd. But the fact remains that you couldn’t even knock down Paul, who only has one fight to his name and a loss at that.

You clearly just wanted to make some easy money and look good at your age while doing it.

Well, he tried valiantly and couldn’t do it — in the process looking like a bungling, washed fighter, who in the end decided to justify his ineptness by claiming all that mattered was the money.

When you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes like that.
